The longer I think about how our "finals" bye week restriction hurts us during the season, the more it fires me up. Not only does it take away a chance to heal up but it keeps Coach from being able to recruit.
Times have changed...the access athletes have to academic tutors, the time dedicated to classes and study halls and now that they are being "paid"...it's time to change this dumb rule.
If we truly want to compete we need every advantage possible to give our team a chance during the season. As it stands now we are not helping one bit with taking a bye week the last week of the season.
I am suggesting that as alumni and donors we email the regents and let them know our thoughts. While I will always advocate for education, I think that this rule does nothing but hurt us athletically. (I worked 35 hrs a week while getting my finance/economics degree and did not take a week off to take my finals).
Sending my respectful emails...hope others will as well!
