I know many on this board vacation in SW Colorado, specifically in the Durango/Silverton region. If you haven't seen the recent news yet, google Animas River. It will make you sick. Long story short, the government agency that's supposed to protect us from environmental disasters (EPA), caused an abandoned mine to leak about 3 million gallons of toxic sludge into the Animas River starting north of Silverton. The levels of arsenic in the water now are off the charts. People in SW Colorado and NW New Mexico are furious. If you're headed up there for vacation, you definitely won't be fishing or rafting in the river this year. They've closed the entire river. There is no telling how many fish and wildlife will die. For those who need this water for irrigation and daily use, they're screwed. What a mess.
