Jett moving on got me thinking about this...starting a true freshman QB is typically not a good thing, but becoming more common place (same with NFL and rookies). Smith would be even more potentially scary as I think this is his first year as a starting QB, at least as a varsity player.

However, Smith possibly has one advantage over your normal incoming high school senior in that he is the kid of one of our coaches.

So here's my thought/question...being a coaches kid typically means one has a step up in knowledge of football since your dad has likely been talking to you about it since you were little. But Smith's dad is actually on our staff, so he doesn't just know football he knows our specific offense.

The NCAA regulates contact between college coaches and recruits, but when that recruit is your kid is there even any attempt to limit some of this? I'm sure he can't go to a practice and throw to the WRs, but can he attend with his dad? If David Yost goes over to the Smith's house for dinner to watch film with his RB coach, what stops Donovan from sitting in?

Seems like there would be no way to really limit his exposure to the program and so he should step foot on campus far ahead of where your normal player would be in understanding the offense.
