I've been really pleased with all of the defensive offers that are going out. For several classes it seems we were really hamstrung on offering a lot of guys and only going after bluechips that we aren't gonna get. Switching DCs so much is a huge reason but just not enough offers and then players that don't fit a certain coaches scheme. This led to us scrambling at the last minute or even worse not signing anybody at all like a class with no HS DL two years ago.
I've always thought schools like Houston and SMU were signing players we were on the fringe of offering that we didn't and turned out to be good players. Stephon Sanders and Yenga at SMU and Derrick Matthews at UH, players we knew would be solid but just weren't quite good enough for us and so we just have huge depth problems. Most of these guys you RS, then by their soph year they are good players that are great by their jr and sr year. Glad to see Gibbs going after a lot of solid players that could be good if they are developed properly. A lot of these guys may not be draft picks but they will be solid contributors. Really hope Gibbs is here for at least 3-4 years because if we get a ton of solid HS players in here that understand his system and are properly developed we will have great depth and our defense could be good and maybe even great.
