UPDATES:
8:14 a.m.: More informed chatter from coaching circles: There is a strong feeling that North Texas head coach Seth Littrell will be interviewing for or meeting about a job on Thursday. We don’t know with which program, however. Texas Tech, Colorado and Louisville are open. Kansas State could open up very soon, and Littrell has been linked heavily to that job.
… We haven’t discussed the candidates as a group much since Sunday, just a lot of focus on single candidates here and there. So to reset the deck, while there could always be some kind of curve ball, we think the Red Raiders’ next coach is likely to be one of the following: Blake Anderson, Art Briles, Neal Brown, Bryan Harsin, Dana Holgorsen, Mike Leach, Jim Leavitt, Seth Littrell, Mike Norvell, Bob Stoops or Matt Wells. Those coaches are listed alphabetically because we don’t pretend to know the pecking order at this point.
… Don’t forget: The Kirby Hocutt Show is scheduled to air today at Noon on Double T 97.3. You can stream it on DoubleT973.com or the Double T 97.3 mobile app. We will have live updates for you throughout the show here on RRS, as well.
8:50 a.m.: There are strong indications that Kliff Kingsbury will be the next offensive coordinator at USC. He's got other options, but people close to the situation believe he will end up with the Trojans.
11:08 a.m.: More informed chatter from coaching circles: The Kansas State/Bill Snyder situation is expected to come to a head very soon, perhaps as soon as today. If/when that job opens, the Wildcats are expected to be very interested in Seth Littrell and Matt Wells.
The Louisville/Jeff Brohm situation is also expected to end today, with either Brohm staying at Purdue or leaving for Louisville. Look for Neal Brown's name to be linked to whichever program walks out of today with a head coaching vacancy.
Finally, there's some thought that Dana Holgorsen may also have some level of interest in Colorado.
11:25 a.m.: There are coaches within the industry that feel like Matt Wells is either the leading candidate or close to the leading candidate for the Texas Tech job. To be clear, we haven't heard that on the Texas Tech side of things, but we felt like this was worth passing along.
11:27 a.m.: We can confirm that Kirby Hocutt will be in the Double T 97.3 studio today for the Kirby Hocutt Show. Local paper was first to report.
1:57 p.m.: We believe Texas Tech has at least spoken with the following with respect to its head coaching vacancy: Neal Brown, Jim Leavitt, Seth Littrell and Matt Wells.
6:10 p.m. First, check this image.
@Kolt Rogers got the image on the left earlier this afternoon from someone who works at DFW Airport. The image on the right is from Matt Wells' in-home visit in Lakewood, Calif. with Utah State commit Joshua Calvin today. Was that Wells at DFW Airport? Was he in Texas for something related to Texas Tech's coaching search or was he simply in Dallas-Fort Worth recruiting? The latter is possible, as Utah State has a 2019 commit that lives in Mesquite, Texas. It seems unlikely that he was just making a connecting flight as this photo was taken right after the security checkpoint, and he wouldn't have gone through security if this was just a layover. - I am idiot. Clear mistake here on our part. My apologies. -AD
