According to a document obtained through an open records request, Texas Tech and Clay McGuire have agreed to a two-year deal worth $280,000 annually. The offer letter was extended on Monday, Feb. 5 and McGuire signed it on National Signing Day two days later.
McGuire will earn slightly less than what he was paid in 2017 by Washington State ($291,500), but is being paid $40,000 more than what Jabbar Juluke received last year.
Other new deals that have been signed this offseason:
Kevin Johns: Two-year deal worth $380,000 annually (Eric Morris made $260,000 in 2017)
Brandon Jones: Two-year deal worth $325,000 annually (Jones made $225,000 in 2017)
David Gibbs: Two-year deal worth $650,000 annually (Gibbs made $550,000 in 2017)
Clay Jennings: $250,000 salary (Karl Scott made $225,000 in 2017)
Brett Dewhurst: $150,000 salary (Texas Tech did not have a 10th assistant coach in 2017)
If you take away Dewhurst - since his position did not exist before 2018 - Texas Tech has committed at least $385,000 more to its assistant coaches salary pool when you compare position-to-position. The program still has one more vacancy to fill, so that number could go up or down depending on that hire.
