A recent article reported that 30 percent of teachers in public education are now not certified, and it's increasing every year. How does Abbott and our legislature address this and other problems? "School choice".
These vouchers are about to become law. While the term "school choice" sounds great, to claim this won't hurt or public schools is ludicrous. Small rural school systems are completely left out. These "vouchers" don't ok provide "school choice" for everyone. It's for families who can afford to pay the balance and handle extra costs such as transportation. Private schools also use their restrictive selection process to avoid accepting any undesirable student or those with special needs who cost much much more to serve. Handicapped, emotionally disturbed, dyslexic, etc .... or just plain discipline problems will be left for public schools. With funding based on enrollment, public school funding will drop despite a greater percentage of students with special needs. If you think 1/3 of uncertified teachers is bad, just wait.
Private schools have their place in Texas from elementaries to TCU and Baylor. Now they'll get help to send Johnny to their own elementary, middle, and high schools.
From fighting wokeness, to banning books, to uncertified teachers, to reduced funding per student, .... it won't be long til Texas or public education ranks right up there with Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.
