Tl;dr - new legislation is being introduced in TX to make it harder to sue Mx tracks in TX, therefore among insurance cheaper and easier to get allowing track to continue to operate. They are looking for people to Sign the petition.
From my contact that is spearheading the project:
“We need to find motocross riders that live in Texas House District 54 in the Temple/Belton/Harker Heights area. We need actual constituents of the district. Please share if you know people in that area.
If you live in District 54 and you're willing to be added to the list of constituents please send me your name and address in 1 message so I can copy/paste it over. Thank you!”
The change they are trying to to make is to align MX legislation to more closely align with how rodeos and other “extreme“ sports are legislated.
Currently, if a rider is injured at a track due to their own negligence, they can sue the MX track and/owner operator. This is causing insurance companies to leave the state resulting in 1 or 2 insurance companies willing to insure tracks in TX. That has caused rates to go through the roof. MX tracks in TX don’t make a lot of money and therefore they are being driven out of business.
So, if you live in district 54 and are willing to get Involved, shoot me a DM and I’ll get your contact info to the person organizing the effort.
EDIT: and yes, username checks out.
