Matt was out at the Prime 21 camp in DFW last weekend, and he was able to catch up with a number of prospects the Red Raiders were interested in, including New Orleans (Louisiana) Landry-Walker 2017 dual-threat QB Keytaon Thompson. He's already picked up a good number of offers, and he's hearing from Tech cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis often.
"I love Texas Tech. Coach always talks to me, and we talk on phone every now and then. Me and Coach have a really good relationship. I was supposed to go down there for one of their camps, but something had come up, but me and Coach Curtis have a really, really great relationship. He wanted me to come down and talk to their offensive coordinator and everything like that, but me and Coach Curtis have a really good relationship."
There are a number of other schools he's hearing from quite a bit as well, but he believes he's ready to start to narrow down the schools he's going to consider.
"Mississippi State, Miami, Tennessee, obviously LSU, Florida Gators, and a few other schools (are who I'm talking to, too," he said. "I know I'll have to make a decision to make pretty soon, and I've been thinking about it, and I'm narrowing down my schools, and I think I'll be able to make that decision when the time comes."
Just a quick update, but interesting that he's seemingly interested in the Red Raiders.

Another 2017 QB out at Prime 21 that Matt was able to catch up with was Cedar Hill (Texas) signal caller Avery Davis. He's picked up five offers already, and he's been in contact with offensive coordinator and inside receivers coach Eric Morris.
"I have offers from Kansas, Utah State, Oregon State, SMU, and Texas Tech," he said. "I talk to Coach Morris, the OC, and he talked to me after he visited my school, and we talked whenever he offered. He told me that he'd be recruiting me, told me how I fit the scheme they run, how they don't care about height, and they want me to play quarterback. I really liked what he was saying."
The QB believes Tech's offense would be an easy transition at the next level, too.
"Definitely, I think it's a lot similar. I think it's something I would like to do at the next level."
As for this fall, Davis will make some visits to schools he's interested in, though he's not sure where he wants to go yet.
"Yeah, I don't know which ones yet, but that's something I definitely want to do."
Here's a quarterback I'd keep tabs on.

I was able to chat with Houston (Texas) Aldine Davis defensive end Keith Sullivan last night for a few minutes, and the six-foot-seven DE let me know the latest on what's going on with his recruitment. He was out at Tech's Spring camp in Houston back in June to hang out, and he liked what he saw.
"I like how they coached the players. They like to have fun sometimes while keeping it serious. You like to have fun doing the things you love."
He's still been talking to the same group of schools as he was back in June, too, and things are going well with the Red Raiders.
"Things haven't really changed a whole lot, really still talking to the same schools," he said. "Talking to Tulsa, Boise, Nevada, and Texas Tech. Things are going really good (with Tech.) The coaches have really been giving me motivational texts and stuff that have kept me going, which is really good."
Sullivan has been keeping in touch with Kevin Curtis the most, and he enjoys the energy the Red Raider assistant puts off.
"I've been talking to Coach Curtis. I like how he keeps me motivated and is not really trying to like trying to say anything negative or anything like that. Everything is positive and motivational, really good vibes."
While he doesn't believe he'll take any visits the rest of this summer, the Houston native is hoping to make his way out to a few campuses for official visits this fall.
"Yeah, this fall. I'd like to take some visits, hopefully out to Tulsa and Tech," he said. "I want to see the campus life, see what people are like, see the dorm rooms."
Matt and I saw Sullivan that day hanging out at the Tech Spring camp, and he's most certainly a grown man and every bit of six-seven. I'll be really interested to see if his recruitment explodes this fall once a few more schools get a look at him.

The Texas Tech coaches have been busy on the recruiting trail looking for a few more receivers, and Temple (Texas) wide receiver Davion Curtis is one of the many talents in the state that seems to fit the mold. It was a busy spring for the six-foot, 180 pound senior, and after Texas Tech extended an offer on May 5th, Georgia followed suit days later. Perhaps his most successful day was on May 18th, when Curtis received offers from Oregon State, Minnesota and North Texas.
Matt caught up with Curtis about the recruiting process and his thoughts on Texas Tech at the State 7-on-7 tournament last weekend.
"I talk to Baylor, I talk to Tech, they offered me. I really like them because they throw the ball a lot." said Humphrey. "They bring a lot of receivers to the league, and it's a blessing to have those type of schools that really want you.(They are) really good schools that throw the ball a lot."
Curtis would be an ideal fit in Texas Tech's offensive scheme, as he can lineup both inside and outside and has speed that makes him a downfield threat, and at this time, he's planning to visiting Kansas State, Oregon State and Georgia this fall.

With only DaMarcus Fields and Neiman Armstrong committed at the moment, the Tech coaches are still hard at work trying to find more DBs to add to the 2016 class. A name that has always been a constant with the Red Raider coaching staff is DeSoto (Texas) DB AJ Green. Green still keeps up with the coaches every day, including Red Raider DC David Gibbs.
“I am still hearing from the Red Raiders a lot, I talk to coach Curtis and coach Gibbs very often. Coach Curtis contacts me through twitter at least once a day,” he said. “I talked to coach Gibbs about two weeks ago. He was telling me about how I could come down there and make a big impact early on. He was telling me how I could take a receiver out of the game, you put me on the number one receiver and I will take him out. He thinks I can definitely help out their secondary by taking out their threats and making it harder for the offense as a result.”
Green was able to make it out for the junior day in March, so a visit to Lubbock wasn’t a must for the cornerback this summer. He had mentioned a few times wanting to make it out for another summer visit, but that didn’t work out and isn’t in the plans. An official visit is definitely on the corner's mind though.
“I have not talked to them about an upcoming summer visit, but I have told Coach Curtis that I really want to take an official visit.”
The three-star corner is hoping to make a decision within the next month or so. With so many schools after his services, has he narrowed down his options yet and where does Tech rank in the pecking order?
“I haven’t released anything official yet at all, I’m just trying to take it one day at a time. Tech would rank very high amongst the schools that are recruiting me, they would be top five for sure. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Cal, and SMU are the other schools that would also be up there.”
The six-foot-one, 170-pound Green hears from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Cal, SMU, Wisconsin and Tech the most right now, and he was able to make it out to Stillwater and Waco this summer for unofficial visits. Since Green stated that Tech is amongst his top five programs, how do the Red Raiders set themselves apart from the various other programs?
“Just how they are constantly staying in touch with me, they aren’t talking to me and then waiting two months to get back in touch with me. Tech is constantly in touch and has shown that they want me a part of their program.”
One of the DBs mentioned earlier - Neiman Armstrong - currently attends DeSoto and is definitely trying to recruit Green out to Lubbock, which is something he has taken into consideration.
“He wants me to go to Texas Tech for sure and we talk about it, but he knows that it is my decision and my recruitment but it would be great to go play somewhere with another DeSoto Eagle.”
