for the first time i really feel like something is being built the right way
started to see it with this recruiting class - not chasing after big fish that would never come, no neglecting any position group, working the transfer market and (still) identifying prospects before they blew up. this probably should have been the biggest indicator that the staff had grown considerably but 4-8 still loomed large
i expected to see the continuation of a disaster for a third year, a leachian staff that only cared about offense, a staff that only recruited out of their league and neglected key positions as a result, a staff that couldnt keep penalties down, make adjustments or get players motivated in times of adversity but here we are. the offense is much more balanced and can slow down and grind it out when needed, defense has improved by leaps and bounds since week 1 and special teams have been solid. wide receivers, penalties, "welp-here-we-go-again-itis" and takeaways are (obviously) particularly improved
maybe kliff finally has a qb that can do all the stuff hes always wanted to do, maybe gibb's experience is whipping the young guys into shape, maybe the coaches and players just took last seasons failure the correct way. i dont know but it obviously looks like a wildly different product out there.
its early - arkansas is clearly down and pretty banged up from last season and the schedule is about to get really tough now, but its still a road sec win and it finally seems like we belong. it feels good to be wrong
