I've camped since a kid with my grandfather and have continued this tradition with my boys (4, 6, & 13). When the weather cooperates, I feel like its a necessary part of childhood and helps reset your circadian clock. We live in North Dallas (Allen) and have camped in a few parts around the North Dallas state parks. We've had a few critters come check out our campsite over night and while telling campfire stories, but its been generally tame. Given its off-season, what stories (good/bad) have you had while camping?
I recently heard a story of a couple female campers in a state park (not sure which park) were awoken in the middle of the night by the sound of foot steps outside their respective tents, each girl thinking it was the other girl. Finally one of the girls got the balls and opened her tent (without a weapon) to find this guy wearing a hoodie creeping on her and her friend and she asked him what he was doing and he replied after a fairly long pause to say "oh I thought this was my friend's tent." She told him that it wasn't and he wasn't welcomed and that he should leave. She said he walked off and she went back in her tent and woke up the next morning to find the guy laying on the ground about 20 yards away from her tent sleeping. Needless to say, they didn't stick around long after that.
North Texas doesn't have a bear issue, but we do have our share of snakes, bobcats, coyotes, scorpions, skunks, raccoons, etc. Any one have an issue with these while tent camping at their campsite?
