LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Brian Klein was named the Big 12 Player of the Week following Texas Tech's 5-0 week that included a pair of wins at No. 9 Florida State.

This is the first weekly award for Klein this season. He joins freshmen Nate Rombach and Jace Jung as Red Raiders who have been recognized by the league office as Rombach won Player of the Week and Jung received Freshman of the Week after opening weekend.

Klein hit safely in all five games for the week with four multi-hit efforts. He was pivotal in helping the Red Raiders rally to top the Seminoles both Saturday and Sunday, reaching base in 7-of-10 trips to the plate. On Sunday, he scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning after doubling to lead off the frame.

The senior is hitting .372/.558/.471 to open the season and currently owns a six-game hitting streak. He is tied for fourth in the conference with five doubles and tied for seventh with 16 hits.

A preseason All-American by three publications, Klein is a member of watch lists for the Golden Spikes Award and the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award.

The Red Raiders open a busy month of March at home with a five-game home stand this week. Tech hosts UNLV for a two-game midweek set and then welcomes former Southwest Conference rival Rice to Lubbock for three games over the weekend.

OU P Dane Acker rightfully took pitcher and newcomer of the week awards after he no-hit LSU.
