TEXAS TECH - SAFETY
With the Red Raiders moving to a 3-3-5 under new defensive coordinator Keith Patterson, one that involves three safeties, Texas Tech is going to need to get premium play from the position. That’s why losing Jah’Shawn Johnson, one of the Big 12’s best safeties a year ago, hurts. And with the need for talented depth, John Bonney and Vaughnte Dorsey moving on hurts as well. Texas Tech brings back seven starters on defense, and should the Red Raiders endorse Matt Wells’ dictate for more physical play, the front seven has a chance to take a leap forward. But if the safety group can’t keep up, particularly in a league where defensive back play is so important, it could all be for naught.
