A trip to the championship is on the line today as Texas Tech faces off with Arizona State at 3 pm in Devon Park in OKC on ESPN+. This is the first game of the day so the time should hold true.
Know The Opponent:
- Texas Tech took two of three from Arizona State at home in the second to last Big 12 series of the season, actually clinching the outright Big 12 title with their second win and celebrating there after. The Sun Devils won game three of the series on Sunday 7-3.
- Kenzie Brown is one of the best pitchers in the country, period. Second in the Big 12 in ERA at 1.28 behind our own NiJa Canady and leads the conference in strikeouts with 278. Brown is 7th in the nation in ERA and 3rd in the nation in strikeouts.
- Both Brown and Canady had 13 strikeouts in their team's quarterfinals wins and both took no-hitters deep into the game, Canady's was actually a perfect game into the 6th.
- Will we see both pitchers to start the game? Regular season the answer would be no, I would expect Chloe Risasseto to get the start for Texas Tech like she has in Game 2s all season and she actually won the head to head with Brown in our game two of series a few weeks ago (Canady closed.) ASU was off last week so Brown may feel fresh enough to go back to back even after tossing 132 pitches 24 hours ago.
- Tanya Windle leads team in BA at .341 to go along with 13 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs.
- Two sun devils have 10+ home runs on year in Ashleigh Mejia (13) and Kelsey Hall (10.)
- All Big 12 Players:
First Team - Kenzie Brown
Second Team - Tiare Ho-Ching, Ashleigh Mejia, Tanya Windle
Freshman Team - Tiare Ho-Ching, Ashleigh Mejia
Something to Watch for Texas Tech:
- Will So.Raegan Jennings to get the start in this as DP IF Kenzie Brown is in the circle? Glasco has given her high praise for her ability to hit the rise ball and had her in the lineup versus Brown last time out when Jennings ended up with the game winning hit in the 6th inning to break a 0-0 tie at the time. Jennings leads the team in BA on more limited ABs as she plays a pinch hitting, matchup role on the team. Could be a day for her to step up if Brown gets the nod or most certainly look for her to be subbed into the lineup immediately if Brown comes on in relief instead. Alana Johnson has also been lauded by Glasco as a great rise ball hitter as well, she is always in the lineup for this team but perhaps could move up a slot or two in order if Brown is the starter as well.
