To me, the communication skill of the President is vitally important. The President must display calm, command and cogently convey his thoughts at all times. The people are going to hang on to every word, and the media will fold, spindle and mutilate whatever you say, particularly if they don’t like you. You must select your words prudently and state your thoughts with care. I may be more picky about it than most, because I do a good bit of public speaking ( or I should say I “did” a good bit of it before we all got sealed up like bugs in a Mason jar), and poor speaking skill drives me nuts.
For the record, I hated the way Trump communicated. Not just the caustic language and hyperbole, and not just the inability to succinctly respond to a question (“Stand down”?? .... why couldn’t he just say “I do not support any supremest group.” .... how hard is that?). What drove me really crazy was his apparent inability to speak in a linear manner and finish a thought cogently (“We are developing a vaccine as fast as possible.... and it’s a great vaccine, really really great. The best. And you know what somebody told me the other day? Blah blah blah.”) Drove me nuts.
But every time I hear Biden speak, my guts start churning. The slurring, slobbering, the gaffs and multiple “uhs” .... it is just painful. If he had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, it would come out something like:
“We mold dees troofs to be self-adhesiff.... uh.., uh flag of the Untitled Slates of Amuka... (slurp)... y una Repubica que representa. (Zzzzzzzzzz) Huh? And lemme tell you something, pal! Arrrrbbeeee urrrr burr, Eve Arden. (Slurp) With haff n haff and Frappuccino for alllllllllll.”
