I was looking through some NCAA Football stats for the year looking for proof of our defensive improvement and noticed something very positive. In 5 of our 6 games we’ve held opponents well below their season average.

2019 Difference from season average:
Montana State -23
UTEP -14
Arizona -7
Oklahoma +5
Okie Lite -4
Baylor -17 (If counting only 4 quarters), -4 (including 2 overtime TDs)

2018 Difference from season average:
Ole Miss +13
Lamar -31
Houston +6
Okie Lite -21
West Virginia +2
TCU -8
Kansas -8
Iowa St. +13
Oklahoma +3
Texas +10
Kansas St. -2
Baylor +5

In 2018 our defense was only able to hold 5 of 12 teams below their season average. Three of those games came again conference opponents TCU, Kansas and Kansas St who didn’t have much offensive power to begin with. Also worth noting that we still have 3 of the 5 held below last year’s averages still coming on the schedule this year.

Will certainly be interesting to see how the rest of these games play out in 2019. Hopefully we can continue to improve and hold opponents below their average.
