I really just needed an excuse to start my first thread with the new format, but this was a good one after the 10-2 victory last night.
Crowd in Midland was pretty good, I think 3,500 actual butts in the seat. Thought there would be more, but a Tuesday game may have had something to do with it. I like the atmosphere in the stadium and would like to see a scheduled game there each year moving forward.
Ty Damron, damn, hell of a game for that kid. Really showed what Tadlock and Hayward see in him. If he can pitch like that next week and into the Big 12 tourney, we will win some more games with him on the mound.
The first 6 innings were tough to watch from an offensive standpoint. Leaving runners on base, in scoring position, no less, is a continued problem, as we left 12 on base through the game and were 0-9 at one point. However, the 7th inning was a change of pace, where we scored 6 runs before even recording an out. Quite the site to see and something that has been absent the entire year.
Stephen Smith can hit the ever loving shvt out of the ball. He mashed a homer over the left field fence that I thought would never land. That's his 8th on the year, and obviously team leading. Someone who reminds me of him already is Tanner Gardner. They have a similar build and Gardner has shown some power and ability to connect with one and take it out of the park. I'm pleased with Gardner hitting in the 2-hole.
Our freshmen hitters in M. Davis and O. Garcia need to step it up a bit when the pressure is on. Both players struck out back to back with RISP. Davis appears to be in a slump at this time and needs to work out of it quickly. However, he made an incredible play behind the bag coming over to the SS side of it and threw over to Gute for the out. I'm pleased with his play in the field and a combo of him and Garcia will be fun to see in the future. He took a nasty slide into his legs off a terrible decision by Raley and he was limping afterwards pretty good, but it didn't seem to effect him moving forward.
Our win yesterday was huge, as ACU now has a record of 9-29 and a terrible RPI. However, don't let their record fool you, they can hit and have some decent pitching. Their record is not indicative of their team imo. They lost to use by one run, twice, the aggies once and TCU once as well; they know how to battle.
Everyone, please add to whatever else you saw that I missed above.
