As it stands, college baseball only has 3 full time coaches, the head coach, and two assistants, with a volunteer coach rounding out the staff. However, there is currently a bill going through legislation (I think through the NCAA?) that would allow all D-1 teams to convert their volunteer assistant into a full time coach. Currently, the volunteer assistant is unpaid (duh), but does not receive any benefits and cannot go out on the road recruiting. Coaches, including UF's O'Sullivan, are trying to persuade the powers that be that this would ease the burden of the two full time assistants time on the road. College baseball currently has the worst athlete-to-coach ratio at 12:1.

This is a joint effort for both baseball and softball (softball currently has a 7:1 ratio). You can read the full article from D1 here.
