I had about 45 minutes to kill before my next appointment, and against my better judgment, I went over to baylorfans.com to see what the Green and Gold Hitler Youth had to say about Brilesgate.

My God. I know a fan base is going to be somewhat defensive about their school no matter what, but after reading their pathetic ramblings, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I expected bad, but it's unbelievable.

It falls under numerous defenses:

1. SU never played a down and he was kicked off the team.
2. Boise State didn't fulfill its obligation to fully inform Baylor.
3. All media is lazy lazy journalism, or as one put it, "our opponent's media" can't wait to get their shots in because all hate a good Christian school.
4. Briles jealousy.
5. Did I mention yellow journalism?
6. And failing all that, there's the constant playing of the deflection card -- as in what about OU and Joe Mixon, or pick some other school, and why is everyone picking on Baylor?

I thought I'd search until I found one poster who basically said, "You know what, we really screwed up here. We need to get to the bottom of this, we need to hold people accountable, and make sure this doesn't happen again." I gave up. I could not find one who didn't totally back Baylor and Briles on this. Not saying there weren't any,b ut couldn't find one.

I started thinking if Tech fans would react the same way if, hypothetically, all of this went down in Lubbock. I honestly don't think so. There would be some hard-liners who would defend Tech no matter what, but there would be enough reasonable people who would be so embarrassed and saddened that they would be outraged.

I think of the Bethel incident last summer, which doesn't even compare to this. Plenty of people were critical of him -- including me -- until all the facts were in.

Just goes to show you what suddenly winning can do to a culture that has spent years and years of losing. Sad.
