This pretty much confirms what I thought on Saturday night. Baylor manned us up most of the night and we just flatly couldn't beat them. Add to that a 47% pressure rate, which is by far the worst we've given up all year - it was under 10% against WVU, and you get the abomination we saw on Saturday. On the flipside, we manned them up and, while they look like all-stars compared to our stats, they really couldn't beat us much either.
They really didn't dominate us on the ground either, this wasn't TCU 2021 or OU 2016 by any means. They just stuck with it and grinded it out. What does jump out is that they ran the ball 71% of the time on 3rd and 7+, that's a ridiculous percentage. Almost as ridiculous as the 7.8 yards per play they averaged in that situation. I have a suspicion that DeRuyter wasn't prepared for the way Grimes' sequences 3rd and 4th down and instead tried to play him like the average OC, who is almost always going to pass in that position, instead of Grimes' desiring to pick up 3 or 4 yards on the ground to get a manageable 4th.
One other thing: we had 0.0 yards/carry before contact and still managed 6.7 yards/carry. Couple of things about that, it's not a sustainable way to run the ball, the offensive line has got to be better, secondly it just goes to show how monstrous SRod and Tahj really are.
