I posted this in the “This Team” thread and thought I may bring it up for discussion in a new thread.
Anyone expecting Wells first year to be an 8-4 or 7-5 year is just being unrealistic. For a decade we haven’t proved to be in that range with Kliff and Tuberville. Just a few times. If we manage to somehow get there then that’s great.
I was not particularly a fan of the hire but I see the bigger picture here. Wish the offense didn’t take 3 steps back but it compliments the defense better when they aren’t on the field over half the game (when the Air Raid allows you to score very quickly).
It seems we can’t put the pieces together but I feel like we could be close. Judging a coach on his first year is fair but should obviously be looked at as a rebuilding year. A huge rebuilding year. So please put that into perspective. This is a tough job right now for any coach if we are being honest.
Give him 3 years and let’s see if we are improving or regressing. If we are regressing it obvious we made the wrong decision.
Tech has never been elite, that’s the truth, and now we’ve had a decade of lackluster play, it’s going to take some time for things to change.
On a positive note, we have seen some good changes. I like our defense is much better than we’ve had in a decade. I feel like with the right players, we can have a defense similar (maybe not as good) but comparative to Iowa States. But it’s going to take some time...
Offense deserves a lot of criticism, it’s fair, but like others have said, I really like our RB’s. Hope next year bolds better for us with our QB’s and WR’s. We don’t have any one special right now besides Vasher. And he’s no burner
