All,

As many of you are probably from the West Texas area and likely saw the news regarding the truck/train collision in Pecos yesterday. That incident has claimed the lives of two or our railroad employees and injured a few more. Had this occurred a couple hours earlier we are likely talking more casualties.

Link to the incident:

So, every railroad crossing has a blue sign with a 1-800 posted on it and the unique crossing id number on it. I would urge anyone to add this number to your phone contacts (it is the same 1-800 number across the Union Pacific system). Every second counts in these situations and the soon train traffic can be notified to stop the more likely incidents like these can be avoided. 1-800-848-8715

If you own or operate any of the companies that transport heavy equipment or machinery via truck, especially low boy trailers I would plead with you to double down on your efforts to educate your drivers on what to do in these situations.

Thank you for reading and hope this information might save the life of you or someone you know some time.
