I don’t know if I am just slipping into a situational depression for other reasons or if my current feelings are based on the way things really are.... but...
At damn near 60, I have seen plenty of swings in the politics of our country, discord of varying degree, and bickering across the aisle. Saw the horrible fighting over Vietnam, the Watergate scandal, the Bush/Gore election shitstorm, the LA riots, 9/11... all that stuff. I guess as an adult I have experienced 4 bad economic downturns. Except for that really uneasy feeling right after 9/11, where we didn’t know if there was something else coming, which lasted maybe a week, I have always assumed we’d be ok. I figured we’d ultimately come together and prevail as a nation.
I don’t feel that way any more. It seems to me we are so fractured, so divided, with goals so completely at odds with one another, I sense we are really on our way out. Most successful, powerful nations/empires ended up really being destroyed from within. I feel that’s where we are. On the doorstep of collapse.
Anybody else feel this way?
