A few things I wanted to touch on....
*I’d heard a few rumblings throughout the week that, despite what everyone had assumed, despite rumors and even a completely false report that Kliff was set to step down, that Hocutt would like to keep Kingsbury. After the win in Austin last night, that obviously happened.
*It was NOT a decision made because of financial reasons RE: Kingsbury’s buyout, either. The money was there should they’ve wanted to make a move. And that was without support for a specific new hire.
*Amd that’s because Kirby Hocutt truly believes that Kingsbury can win games at Tech and get it done. Is that something even I necessarily agree with? I don’t know. I learn towards no. I think five years is a lot of evidence. I think it’s certainly possible that Kingsbury could right the ship if he continues to learn and grow, but some changes will have to be made moving forward, in my opinion.
*But agree or disagree, I certainly can respect Kirby’s steadfastness and commitment to what he believes is the right thing. He didn’t let anyone bully him into a decision. It may end up being the wrong decision down the road, but I certainly can respect him for sticking to his guns and not caving to a ton of pressure.
*So now what happens? I’d guess you see some changes for the football program internally, as I stated above. I’m not quite sure what those are yet, but I’d guess there will be some.
