New school, new season, same high expectations for Micah Peavy

Few moves this summer shook up the Texas 6A title picture quite like Micah Peavy
joining Duncanville after a regional tournament trip with Spring Dekaney last season. When his father (David Peavy) was announced as the new head coach for the Panthers, Micah followed suit shortly after and will lace them up in the blue and red of Duncanville this season. Our analyst Lyndon Cook caught up with Peavy to get his thoughts on recruitment, his recent Texas Tech visit, and expectations going into the season.
Peavy was on campus in Lubbock over the past weekend, and had this to say of his visit with the Red Raiders:
“The visit went great, I really enjoyed it. I liked their individual workouts and how they run practices. I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, too. My dad has known Coach Beard since he was in college and he was Coach (Darryl) Dora’s high school coach so I know them well.”
In addition to the Texas Tech visit, has also been on campus at both LSU and Oklahoma for visits so far this Fall.
It comes as little surprise that top-tier schools are flocking to observe Peavy, with the player listing Butler, Georgetown, LSU, Mercer, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Purdue, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Xavier as programs who have been in to see him this off-season.
Peavy has been a highly-regarded recruit from an early age, but looks like he’s turned a corner and is gunning to climb up the rankings with some excellent performances during the off-season, especially at the GASO Fall Classic. While his length and athleticism made him a deadly slasher, his outside shooting was not always up to par with the rest of his game
That’s no longer the case, with Peavy torching the nets from all over the floor in the last few outings we’ve seen. Peavy says he’s been in the gym working on his shooting every day, and the results are clear to see in his game.
Peavy broke down the feedback he’s been getting from college coaches, saying: “(Coaches) like my versatility and how I can play and guard multiple positions. They all say that my shot is looking really good and that I just need to keep working hard.”
Shifting gears to talk about the season, where in-season practices started Wednesday, Peavy naturally has high expectations for a talented Duncanville team that added elite 2019
Jahmius Ramsey to the fold during the Fall.
“I felt like we had a chance to go to state before we got Jahmius, but now that he’s here I know we can.”
Peavy is in no rush to commit, and is comfortable focusing on the high school season before turning his thoughts to a college decision. Asked when he plans on committing, Peavy said as of right now it will “probably be around this time next year.”
If he keeps his development on its current trajectory, that decision could possibly be picking from just about any school in the country.
