I have thought for a some time that rankings really shouldn't come out until mid-October. I thought I would look at the pre-season rankings and compare them to the rankings at the end of the season.

Preseason ranking - Team - Final Ranking

1 Florida State 5
2 Alabama 4
3 Oregon 2
4 Oklahoma ur
5 Ohio State 1
6 Auburn 22
7 UCLA 10
8 Michigan State 5
9 South Carolina ur
10 Baylor 7
11 Stanford ur
12 Georgia 9
13 LSU ur
14 Wisconsin 13
15 USC 20
16 Clemson 15
17 Notre Dame ur
18 Ole Miss 17
19 Arizona State 12
20 Kansas State 18
21 Texas A&M ur
22 Nebraska ur
23 North Carolina ur
24 Missouri 14
25 Washington ur
ur TCU 3
ur Georgia Tech 8
ur Mississippi St 11
ur Boise St 16
ur Arizona 19
ur Utah 21
ur Marshall 23
ur Louisville 24
ur Memphis 25

Here are the previous years records for the teams that were initially unranked.

TCU - 4-8
Georgia Tech - 7-6
Mississippi St. - 7-6
Boise St. - 8-5
Arizona - 8-5
Utah - 5-7
Marshall - 10-4
Louisville - 12-1
Memphis - 3-9

Every season has it's surprises. Much like @ADickens posted in an article last week, you just can not tell what each season is going to be like.

I'm taking this as a glass half full. I think we see a lot of improvement and come away with at least seven wins this season.
