Just some thoughts while eating breakfast with my toddler this morning.
Lets start off with the good
The bad
Edit: It was 3 picks, I thought ESPN was weird but they were missing two drives
Lets start off with the good
- Donovan Smith with under a minute left in the 2nd all the way to OT. He went 5/7 and lead tech to 2 TDs and a FG. He had one of the worst 2nd halfs of football I have seen in a long time but when the lights were on he stepped up. One thing that kind of stuck out to me is this quote from Kosi (thank you Cobern for it) – "'Right before that play started, I literally said ‘In Donny I trust.’” I knew Donny was going to take me home, and I was telling him all game, ‘Donny take me home’, so it was good to see…'" I have not heard a lot of defensive players say stuff like this about a QB. A few times that come to memory was when Foles did a playoff drive, Mahomes last year against the Bills and Brady when he had the ball during the 4th.
- Tim DeRuyter. We need to thank our lucky stars that we got him. Thanks to his work on improving Pattersons D, we had the perfect showing today. Allowing 13 in regulation and only one really big play was something that should be considered a win.
- The culture has changed. One of my biggest concerns with this team is that they were all talk, but after tonight with the performance you can tell they care. They have all bought into McGuire's vision and we see that in the details. Never giving up (on the 4th and 20 I thought we were done) to playing better fundamental football.
The bad
- Special teams. I don't remember the last time we had a great PR but it makes no sense why we don't fair catch it every time. FG kicking is something that I now worry about.
- OL. We need to figure out the solution to our OL problem but we are not great there.
- Not taking care of the ball. We saw 2 fumbles (recovered both) and 3 picks last night. That needs to change quickly.
