Where are we now? The why in Wyoming can be scaled down to excuses, viable, but just like aholes - all got one and all stink. But....
2024 Culture: Defined, refined and established expectations. When taking over a program year 1 survive, year 2 build on the foundation set, year 3 thrive from past experiences. Young o-line goes with whatever the culture is...dysfunctional culture makes a inexperienced o-line (and defense) worse. The culture set by Joey and crew is one of the best. See transfers in vs transfers out and = great acceleration. Oline will build and be great by end of season.
2023 Culture: good but awkward. Shough, great tough kid, didnt bring the leadership you wanted. At this point last year, Behren was already on everyone's mind. The lingering chemistry between Wells guys and Joeys is unavoidable, but reared its head in year 2 more than year 1. Loss to Wyoming was a dysfunctional culture loss. If replayed now, lose a LB, strong culture fits in and fixes it.
2024 QB: See above. Not just the fans but the team believes he can.
2023 QB: No trust he could pull a team by himself. Love the fight, but it is what it is.
2024 Oline: Young - will be really good. Very good coach, much more loved and heard than before. RB is good and will help early miscues.
2023 Oline: Big, but fell to culture and injuries. Obviously if Joey made a change, there was mess.
2024 RB: Top in nation
2024 RB: Top 10 in nation
2024 WR: Stupid. Dumb good. Healthy all season can become top 10 in nation. Kid from Stephenville is 3rd best and a dude.
2023 WR: Kid from Stphenville is most trusted one.
2024 TE: Incredible transfer, and depth all around. TE is the position that can win/lose tight games. We have one+
2023 TE: kind of like our oline, health of qb and te took away from good ones.
2024 DLine: Big, young and physical. Another culture watch - will grow with minutes
2023 DLine: Big, experienced leaders. Ends didnt come through as anticipated but DC is so good disguising - getting team ready for Oregon was incredible - last half of season nobody better.
2024 LB: Similar to WR core. Crazy size and experience.
2023 LB: Really hoping they could play good -
2024 DB: Fast - unproven. Culture breeds success and so does toast redeaux.
2023 DB: Really good.
2024 Special Teams: Australian kicker must be a good thing - excellent coach - thrive
2023 ST: Amazing kickers and speed.
Trip to Washington will judge the culture compared to Wyoming. Tech is ungood on the WEST coast. That changes.
Trips to tcu, Okie state, iowa state, arizona will be fun.
Last year I thought we could compete in any game. 3 QBs hurt and lack of trust messed that up. I do feel every game on the schedule we can not just compete but play to win. Culture is a funny thing and that is one of Joey's best attributes is building a house to stand on.
