1. Baylor sucks. Baylor sucks. Baylor sucks. Baylor sucks. Baylor sucks. I look forward to playing them next year and only regret that it won't be in Waco where we could beat them at their house.
OK, we got that out of the way in case you don't read the rest of the missive.
2. College Football: We will never have a DC as good as John Chavis. We will never have the quality of defensive recruits on the field that TAMU had last night. LSU shredded a very good A&M defense for about 650 yards after gaining only 125 total yards against Alabama two weeks ago. It happens. Our identity is the Air Raid. We should keep it and try to get better at defense.
3. So many penalties reflect poor coaching.
4. Offensive Line is responsible for at least 3 losses. I knew they were young but I thought they would be better. Could not hold several 3 man fronts in pass protection.
5. Justin Murphy retiring really hurts. I thought he would play on Sundays after watching him as a freshman.
6. WRs were pretty good. When you consider how young they are overall, they were spectacular at times. Batson, Coutee, Willies, Cantrell, Giles. I think Willies can be outstanding if he works hard and keeps his head in it. Coutee is better than Grant was at the same age. Sadler was very good last year and had a hard time getting on the field this year. I don't like to mention names, but there were two WRs that I never thought should have a scholarship from KK. One of them played tonight and proved that opinion correct so far. The other one has already quit.
7. Defensive line was very much improved. They will be better next year. Fehoko, Washington, Wallace. Pipken was a huge help. I hope these young linebackers can play and we decide Dakota Allen was innocent after all. I still don't think we tackle like other teams. I'm not smart enough to know why. We missed Hinton in the last few games. As tight as UT and OSU were, I think he would have made the difference. Does KK or Gibbs have a sister that Hinton went out with?
8. QB: Mahomes will go pro. He is a tremendous athlete with a big arm. I think his release and reads are highly suspect for the next level but he will be drafted in the first 4 rounds; maybe first round if he tears up the combine. His lack of discipline, which he should have honed in college, is a detriment. I'm rooting for him and hope that the NFL goes well for him. We will LOSE A TON at QB next year. I hope I'm wrong about Shimonek but I don't think he will be the answer. I don't think he will be the starter all year unless the Jett rumors lead to his dismissal.
9. RB: I thought Felton was better than Ward but I was wrong. I thought Ward was too small too play as well as he has. He has excellent vision and balance.
10. Coaching:
a. KK: He will continue to improve. He is the best QB scout/coach in the country. He is highly intelligent and he played at both levels. He bleeds Raider Red, is very competitive and I hope he is our coach for 30 years. Having said that, I think he played Mahomes agains KState when he shouldn't have because he is stubborn and played QB and he was trying to be a players' coach for Mahomes instead of for the team. For the games after that, Mahomes was probably the right choice. KK clock mgt. today at the end of the half is playbook ML. Terrible. However, KK runs the ball a lot more than Mike ever did. He also kicks field goals. Mike frustrated me worse than KK many times notwithstanding his record. KK ran the ball in the second half and used a lot of clock.
b. Gibbs: Why did he leave Houston for TTU? Always thought this was strange. He should return. Any replacement that would consider coming here would just put us back that much further. I still want to see us tackle well.
11. Big 12: I thought OU was easily the best team in the league before the season. I hate them and I hate Baker more. I will be pulling for ZeroxU as hard as that is. By the way, their only real loss is against BU. If they beat OU, they deserve to be in consideration because the loss to Central Michigan was outright theft. It's harder to win 7 games now than it was when we split in north and south. Playing more conference games is just harder. UT should hire Tom Herman now.
12. Proud of the defense tonight. They played pretty well and made turnovers that really mattered for us. Let's close out this recruiting class with some more good players and get ready for a very hard schedule next year.
