I'm sure this will get some people upset but started thinking about that 2013 team this week as some posters compared what we have today to then. From my view we had a lot of talent then and the roster has been severely depleted, through KK's tenure here. I'm sure I'm missing some things or underestimating some of our current talent but found the look back interesting. Make of it what you will...
QB
Michael Brewer 2- year starter VT
Davis Webb NFL
Baker Mayfield Heisman/NFL
You have to wonder if even a healthy Bowman breaks the 3-deep. KK deserves credit for landing and running off BM, love him or hate him.
RB
DeAndre Washington NFL
Kenny Williams 5 yds/carry, >750 yards
Sadale Foster 6.5 yds/carry, >350 yards
Thompson likely plays in somewhere but hard to see where, in that Foster specialized as a scat back.
WR
Jace Amaro NFL
Jakeem Grant NFL
Dylan Cantrell NFL
Eric Ward Top 5 All-Time in receptions, yards, TDs for TT
Bradley Marquez Led Big12 in TD receptions, along with 800+ yds
Left off some names for brevity but can't see any of our current WRs/TEs breaking in the top 5. One of the best WR groups we've ever had.
OL
LeRaven Clark NFL
Alfredo Morales Big 12 2nd team, 38 starts
Jared Kaster 37 starts
Rashad Fortenberry 25 starts
Beau Carpenter 16 starts
James Polk, Tony Morales, Baylen Brown, Matt Wilson, Trey Keenan, etc. round out the depth. Anderson definitely starts. Hard to see anyone else starting over that group.
DL
Kerry Hyder NFL
Delvon Simmons NFL
Jackson Richards 24 starts
Branden Jackson NFL
Dartwan Bush, Dennell Wesley, Demetrius Alston, etc. round out the group. Granted KK wasn't able to hold onto Simmons but he was there preseason. I think Eli Howard factors into this group somewhere.
LB
Sam Eguaveon NFL
Will Smith All Big 12, most season tackles since Flugence (4th in NCAA)
Micah Awe 2nd team All Big 12, CFL
Pete Robertson 5th all-time in sacks for TT, brief NFL stint
Terrance Bullitt
Zach Barnes, Malik Jenkins, Andre Ross, etc. round out the group. Jeffers definitely factors in here and Allen would've too.
DB
JJ Gaines
Tre Porter
Bruce Jones
Keenon Ward
Derrick Mays, Olaoluwa Falemi, Austin Stewart, Justis Nelson, etc. round out the group. Probably the weakest group as it applies to accolades and post college careers. There were some playmakers though. Frye definitely finds a spot as a starter and think McPhearson would've factored in too.
