Austin 3D gun maker wins battle with State Dept, DOJ and other gov't agencies for right to put the code for making 3D guns online.
More a 1st amendment victory than 2nd. It was a free speech issue as the gov't claimed the gun maker could not post the code for manufacturing 3D guns online. The gov'ts prohibition to posting the code online amounted to prior restraint of the Austin gun makers rights.
"The settlement says Defense Distributed's customers and the Second Amendment Foundation's members can 'access, discuss, use, reproduce and otherwise benefit' from the sort of data and technical files that started the dispute."
In today's world of high tech, computer code is considered the same as anything written on paper and has 1st amendment protections.
