Portal players

Saban just said on GD that "portal players are there for a reason" and that using portal players is a "microwave fix" for programs.

I feel that's very poignant for a coach of that statue to say that. Yes, he is "old school". Yes, he is bias due to his experience at a school of Alabama's stature.

When the portal opened up, everyone seemed to believe that it was like the pot of gold, this resource of fantastic players that would level the playing field for programs. Even some posting here that HS recruiting doesn't matter anymore because you can just portal the "non-performers" out and add in better portal players.

My personal observations over the past few seasons have proven to me that is just not the case. As my views of portal players and portal strategy have evolved, my skepticism of these players has only increased. Moreover, it has cemented my opinion that building a program of HS players is still the most assured path to success.

Portal player are like crack cocaine for some coaches. Ahem... Coach Beard...ahem. Always seeing the green grass on the otherside and not coming to terms of the hard work needed to recruit and develop players to build a program for long-term success.

Portal players are there for a reason.

Looking at moving to Lubbock

My wife and I are looking at moving to Lubbock once I retire from the Navy. We’re originally from Fort Worth. We want to be close enough to home to go when we want to, but not close enough to be called over. We have 3 kids (14,9,8). What areas are decent? She’s never been to Lubbock and I’ve only been a couple times. What is the Lubbock lifestyle like? We’re in the early stages of our planning.

OT: Wags and Waves 2024!

Hey everyone!

My dog rescue, DFW Furgotten Friends, has our Wags and Waves event coming up on September 21st at Hawaiian Waters in Garland. This is an event that turns the water park in a big dog park for your pups to enjoy. The entire park is open, except the slide, and we have vendors and food options available as well.

This is a fun fundraiser that usually bring in around $3000 for each of the rescues involved. So, if you’re in the DFW area, please come out with you pup and enjoy and awesome day!

Home Investors/Rental Interest GITT

I am looking at scaling my rental home business. I am wanting to add some more rental homes to my portfolio, but I am stuck with the ever big question of how to do it. I have recently come across first position HELOC's that offer a simple interest loan at better rates of 7-8% and then you use the HELOC as your bank account and put all income back into the HELOC to save massive money on interest. I have quite a bit of equity in my own house and don't currently have a mortgage. I know about DSCR loans as well. Some of the HELOC calculators are showing 5-7 years to pay off a 360k loan but obviously you could snowball the loan and buy more houses once the credit limit comes down.

Would you look at a first position HELOC, DSCR, or look at a hybrid situation where you use the HELOC to finance the down payments on many houses and still get DSCR loans on each house? I was just curious what other Red Raiders have done and if there are any Red Raider bankers that can issue first position HELOC's?

Couple Positive Things

I had a great conversation with a players parents last night and they mentioned a couple things that I’ll share. They said that “multiple schools” have made a run at DeRuyter but he had no interest because he loves Joey, and likes it here a lot. They’ve also gotten close with the Hudson’s, and said Micah bleeds red and black, and loves it here. His parents are happy and content as well.

Nothing earth shattering but those couple things gave me warm fuzzies to hear. I know the defense has not started off the season like we’d hoped, but I’m a big TD fan and I’m glad he’s here. I think we’ll see continued improvements the rest of the season.

Two Docs Raiderland Red - Official Craft Beer of Texas Tech

Guys wanted to share with ya'll the big announcement. We are honored and so excited to be the official craft beer for Tech NIL after agreeing to a sponsorship with Texas Tech. The press release just came out so hopefully you'll be hearing all about it.

This is a dream come true for us and I can't wait to see everyone drinking an awesome, locally made beer in a sweet can, AND knowing that every single beer also gives back a significant amount towards funding our NIL goals.

As always, thank you all for your support. This RRS community is a big part of our success and hope you guys will continue to spread the word.

Thanks!
