The ground rules
for the Red Raider Confidential are simple: please do not post or summarize the information contained in this
report elsewhere. We, along with the paying subscribers here, would appreciate
it. Now onto the scoop...

Davis Plans Official Visit

in Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson wide receiver
Andre Davis
as officially visiting Texas Tech on Sept. 18.

"Yeah," he said. "I plan on taking my official visit to come to Texas Tech the
weekend that they play Texas."

The Red Raiders are in very good company for the 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect as
he included them in a tentative top four.

"I like Texas Tech, Florida State, USC and Miami right now," Davis said.

Earlier this week, Davis told RRS that he speaks with running backs coach Chad Scott "a
lot, probably once a week" and added that one of his high school coaches is good
friends with the Texas Tech assistant.

"He (Scott) was just telling me how Texas Tech has been known as 'Wide Receiver
University,' that they are doing big things and they already have one of the
best receivers in our class (Javares
McRoy
) already committed to Texas Tech and that if I come in that would be a
big add on to their offense," Davis said. "He told me I would have the chance to
play early and all that stuff."

Davis has not attended any junior days -- he plays baseball -- and said he
wanted to take all of his official visits before making a decision.

Fulse Still Talking To Tech

Fort Meade (Fla.) tight end

Brandon Fulse
added an offer from Texas Tech a few weeks ago, and the
6-foot-4, 247-pound standout has remained in contact with the Red Raiders.

"I talked to Coach [Chad] Scott yesterday," Lewis said. "It was a good visit. We
talked about the new facilities that they're building around there, some great
additions to the campus and really just how bad they wanted me to be a Red
Raider. I've also spoken with the offensive coordinator, Coach [Neal] Brown."

Fulse, a Rivals250 candidate, does not have any definite spring visit plans
which, as an out-of-state school, probably works in Texas Tech's favor

"I still haven't lined anything up right now, as far as visits," he said. "I'm
most likely just going to try and make it out to a few spring practices, and
spring games, if I can."

Jones Still Planning March Visit

Spring
(Texas) Westfield wide receiver
Christian Jones
is still planning on attending Texas Tech's junior day in
three weeks.

"Yes, that's still happening," he said. "Me and my mom planned it out and we are
going to be down there March 27."

According to Jones, his visit will be more about getting a feel for the program
than diving into depth charts or X's and O's.

"I watch Tech play all the time so I basically know about the offense and how
they do things," he said, "but I want to learn more about the atmosphere and the
academics.

"I mean they stand out because I have seen them play a lot. So, I know their
program but it's not just that. I have checked out their academics and they are
pretty strong academically. Mostly that's what I'm looking for because I don't
want to be left out to dry after I'm done playing."

Jones told us that he frequently speaks with Red Raider outside receivers coach
Tommy Mainord and is supposed to be calling offensive coordinator Neal Brown in
the next few days. He has recently picked up offers from Baylor, Iowa State and
Rice.

Raiders First To Offer Gaines

We spoke with Irving (Texas) Nimitz athlete

J.J. Gaines
earlier this week and he confirmed that he received his first
offer last week.

"I got an offer from Texas Tech last week," he said, "but that is the only offer
I have right now. Coach [Travaris] Robinson is recruiting me from Texas Tech,
they want me to come there and play cornerback for them."

Gaines hopes to attend junior days at Kansas and Oklahoma State over the next
several weeks and said that he doesn't "have a preference for any school right
now."

Lewis Has Family Connection

Spring (Texas) Klein Oak defensive lineman
Jon Lewis
, one of the latest prospects to add an offer from Texas Tech, has
a family connection to the university.

"I am possibly going to visit there over spring break because my older brother
is going to be going there next year, so I will be visiting them around then,"
Lewis said. "He said it's a really big campus and everyone up there is pretty
nice. He said that the football team is looking pretty good for next year's
season too."

Lewis said that he's spoken with Red Raider defensive coordinator James Willis
and defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson.

"I have talked with Coach Willis a few times, as well as Coach Robinson," he
said. "They are pretty good guys. I think they have some pretty good plans for
Texas Tech in the future as far as football and they just seem like really cool
guys."

Quick Hits

*
Though San Antonio (Texas) MacArthur tight end

Jace Amaro
declared a top three of Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas Tech last
week, the thought is that the Red Raiders lead for the 6-foot-5, 237-pound
prospect. He hopes to make a decision in April after he checks out each school
in-person, and he's already visited Waco and College Station. Amaro recently
indicated to someone within the Rivals network that his relationship with Texas
Tech's offensive coordinator Neal Brown is one of the main reasons why the Red
Raiders lead.

* We're just about three weeks out from Texas Tech's big March 27 junior day.
Based on things we've heard from talking with various prospects over the past
several weeks, it seems like this is going to be a big event. Obviously there's
still plenty of time for plans to change, but uncommitted targets like Jace
Amaro, Brenham (Texas) wide receiver

Derek Edwards
, Christian Jones and Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson running
back

Kenny Williams
have all indicated to us that they will be in town that day.

* Don't be surprised if Spring (Texas) Klein Oak tight end

Max Stevenson
makes another trip out to Texas Tech at some point over the
next month or two. The 6-foot-5, 223-pound prospect attended the Red Raiders'
February 13 junior day with his mother, and word from the Houston-area is that
he wants his father to come take a look and meet the team's coaching staff.

* We confirmed with Arlington (Texas) Sam Houston standout

Jamal Turner
on Thursday that the 6-foot-1, 173-pound prospect had added an
offer from Texas Tech. Turner is committed to Nebraska as a quarterback, but the
Red Raiders are looking at him as a defensive back. He is thought to be very solid to the Huskers.
