Dismuke Planning To Make In-State Rounds

DYLANDISMUKE11_16200A.JPG
Duncan
(Okla.) offensive lineman

Dylan Dismuke
might be inching closer to a decision. While he had
essentially things narrowed down to Arkansas and Texas Tech three weeks ago,
offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss have caused him to slow the
process down.

"I wouldn't say I have a top list of schools, it's pretty open right now," he
said. "I'm going up to OU and visiting next Wednesday, then that following
Sunday I am going to visit OSU."

Does he still plan to make a decision during the season?

"Yeah, that's what I'm still looking to do," Dismuke said, "but there might be a
chance I have my decision in a few weeks or so."

Obviously, from a Texas Tech standpoint, that "a few weeks" timetable is a
concern because he will be fresh off of visits to both in-state schools. Still,
Dismuke keeps in regular contact with the Red Raiders.

"I call them a couple of times a week, but if I don't talk with them then it's
usually every other day through e-mail," Dismuke said. "Coach (Moore) tells me
that I have the opportunity to come there and start in my second year there, but
everything he has told me has been positive and just trying to get me to come
there."

Jackson Eyes Potential Camp Visit

Spring (Texas) Klein Collins cornerback

Charles Jackson
, the No. 147-ranked prospect in the 2011 class, might be on
the Texas Tech campus this weekend.

"I am really not sure," he said. "I am trying to go down there June 5th. I want
to go to a Texas camp as well."

Jackson's stock blew up this spring and he's being courted by dozens of
programs.

"Man, really, name them and they have been in contact with me -- at least the
ones who have been in the past, no new teams recently," he said.

In all, Jackson holds offers from Arizona, Baylor, California, Houston,
Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

Offer On The Way For Alfredo Morales?

Arlington (Texas) Sam Houston offensive line
Alfredo Morales could be in line
for receiving an offer from Texas Tech next week.

"Me and my brother (Red Raider commit
Tony Morales) are going to the Tech camp
the 9th through the 11th," he said. "Their offensive line coach, Coach Moore,
has said to me that he thought I'd have an offer coming if I came to Tech's camp
and showed what I could do and if I moved around well."

Should Texas Tech pull the trigger on an offer, it sounds like a commitment from
Morales wouldn't be too far away.

"If Tech doesn't offer me, I'll probably think about going to the Kansas State,
SMU and Baylor camps," he said. "That would be it."

If an offer is not extended, Morales doesn't expect that it would affect his
brother's pledge to the Red Raiders.

"We pretty much want to play together but we also understand it might not be
possible if Tech doesn't offer me," he said. "Whatever they decide with me, it
won't affect his commitment."

Gaines Plans Visit

JJGAINES11_16200.JPG
Irving (Texas) Nimitz athlete
J.J. Gaines
has a busy summer schedule, mostly due to 7-on-7, that will
prevent him from attending a lot of camps or taking many unofficial visits.

"I'm not going to be going to too many other places this summer because I have 7
on 7 coming up with my school and that's going to be taking up a lot of my
time," Gaines said. "But I'm actually going up to Ohio not this weekend but next
weekend, I'm not sure if it's to visit Ohio or Ohio State because I just go with
one of the coaches of mine."

One of the few places that Gaines knows that he will for sure be checking out is
the South Plains.

"Yeah, I'm going to be up there this summer," he said. "I'm not positive of the
date yet, but I'll be there sometime this month, though."

Gaines spoke with Texas Tech cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson this week and
got the low-down on the Red Raiders.

"We really just talked about the defense they are implementing at Tech right now
and that they want to make it known to everybody like their offense has been
known by a lot of people," Gaines said. "And that he thinks I can help out a lot
on defense.

"He told me that I would be playing cornerback or nickel back, they are going to
have a lot of DB's going down the field in man coverage. He thinks I would be
comfortable doing that."

Gaines told us that he hopes to make a decision before the season starts. He
currently holds offers from Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Rice and Texas Tech.

New OL On Radar

Ready for a new name at offensive tackle that's recently hit the radar? Gilmer
(Texas) standout

Michael Boddie
. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound prospect is currently committed to
Houston, but also holds offers from Kansas and Rice. It's possible that Boddie
will attend Texas Tech's camp this weekend but he was noncommittal during his
conversation with RRS.

"I don't know," he said. "We are going to see. I'm not quite decided yet. I
mean, I'm still pretty loyal to Houston right now, but I don't know. It depends
on how well our relationship works out in Lubbock. I'm not quite sure yet. I
mean, if we do, we have to make reservations and all that, but I'm not quite
sure. It depends on how comfortable I feel and if I am then I might, but I'm not
quite sure yet."

The Red Raiders' interest began after they evaluated Boddie in-person during the
spring evaluation period.

"I talked with the recruiting coach and the offensive line coach about a week
ago," he said. "We just spoke for about 30 or 45 minutes and they just wanted me
to come out to camp and see if we couldn't work something out. I told them that
I'd think about it, and we have been touching base back and forth."

Boddie might not know if he's going to visit Texas Tech this weekend or not, but
he does know that he likes the coaches that he's spoken with and has a lot of
respect for the program.

"They are both pretty great guys. I felt like we had a little connection, and I
want to stay in state, and Texas Tech is definitely a phenomenal program,"
Boddie said. "And they are going to be doing big things, and they have a new
coach, Coach (Tommy) Tuberville, that I have been watching for a long time. I
grew up in Louisiana; we would watch LSU and Auburn play. They have a good thing
working there, and a good thing starting. It's definitely a good program right
now, so we will just have to see how things go."

If Boddie does end up picking up an offer from the Red Raiders, he would think
long and hard about accepting it.

"Well, I would definitely have to sit down. I have had four or five offers from
small schools, but the Big 12 is definitely a tougher conference, and it’s
definitely more competitive, more media outlook, and a lot better
opportunities," Boddie said. "So, I’d definitely have to sit down with the
family; we'd have to discuss it, and we would just have to do what is best. "

Quick Hits

TONYMORALES3_17200.JPG
*
Texas Tech 2010 signee
Aleon Calhoun
has not yet qualified academically but there is still a chance
that he could make it to Texas Tech. The massive offensive lineman has the GPA
he needs, but will need to retake the TAKS and ACT this summer. His situation
likely won't be final, either way, until August.

* Fellow 2010 signee

Coby Coleman
is in a similar situation. He told RRS
this week that he is just waiting on his SAT scores.

* Keeping with the signee theme,

Delans Griffin
did not qualify academically and is enrolled at Coffeyville
(Kan.) C.C.

* Texas Tech commit

Tony Morales
almost made a decision two months ago that likely would have
prevented him from being ranked as highly as he is (No. 168 nationally). The
6-foot-4, 300-pound standout took home Offensive Line MVP honors at the Fort
Worth Nike Camp in April and impressed several of Rivals.com's national
analysts. It turns out, Morales almost didn't even go.

"At first I wasn't even going to go but my brother made me change my mind," he
said. "I just decided to go because I knew there was going to be good
competition, I like to compete against the best. I knew there were going to be
the best players out there. I went out there and tried to get better, went my
hardest through the drills and stuff. I just gave it 100 percent."
