The Red Raiders are looking for an upset win in Lawrence against one of the best Kansas football teams in a long time.

This is a super intriguing matchup to me from a matchup standpoint. Texas Tech has bottled up the run pretty well and I am super interested to see if Tim DeRuyter can bottle up the Jayhawks again like he was able to do last season.

The Kansas offense runs a ton of interesting looks, with triple option principles and it all starts with Jason Bean, who has developed a ton since we last saw him in Lubbock last year.

On top of the ridiculous speed Bean possesses, he has been able to throw the ball with decent efficiency so far this season. The KU offense is going to put a lot of pressure on the safeties (looking at you, CJ Baskerville) in the run fit and will take advantage of that in the passing game. Almost every throw is tagged with an RPO, and it is super interesting and difficult to stop.

Lawrence Arnold is the top receiving threat for the Jayhawks and has been very good as a vertical threat this season.

You also cannot talk about the Kansas offense without talking about Devin Neal, another one of the best backs in the conference and an extremely physical runner.

Tim DeRuyter is going to have his hands full and it should be fun to watch. Hopefully he can give the Tech offense a shot.

Onto the data…

Obviously, the thing that sticks out is the Jayhawks efficiency on offense, both with the pass and with the run. They generate quality possessions and capitalize on them well. I am very intrigued at the Tech rush defense matchup against this Jayhawk run game.

Tech is going to need a better effort getting off the field this weekend and it would be really nice if that could happen, but it has been a struggle all year.

On the flip side, the Jayhawk defense isn’t as strong, but the personnel in the secondary is of great quality.

The Red Raiders are going to have the opportunity to run the ball and could have the chance to generate quality possessions against the Jayhawks this weekend. It is somewhat of an anomaly with how bad the Jayhawks have been in early downs and late downs. The Red Raiders have improved greatly with staying on the field of late, hopefully that continues.

Should be a fun one this weekend, feels like Tech has a shot here. Only time will tell.
