Sup y'all! Asked for questions mid last week and here are my answers for y'all.

What differences in offensive game planning, if any, should we expect to see this year? What do you see as strengths that Kittley might try to exploit? Who is going to surprise us on the OL?
Frankly not sure what we can expect in game planning differences based on what we don't know by not being in the building. Tech has overhauled the offensive personnel, honestly, and that's the biggest way that Tech can change the tide. Tech seems to be much more explosive both inside and outside in the wide receiver room and the tight end room has become a real strength. Tech's definitely going to use them, but how it looks is exactly what I'm trying to figure out with my offensive analysis series, so check those out if you haven't. On the OL, the surprise is likely Sheridan Wilson but we've heard a ton about him. I'm personally pretty excited about Ty Buchanan and he looked pretty good in the reps that we saw.

Who is going to be the biggest “wow, where did he come from” player on the field this fall?
For most, I have to imagine that it will be none other than Johncarlos Miller. Dude is legit and I could see him really turning some heads of the folks who haven't read about him on here that much. For me, Isaac Smith or Dylan Spencer off the edge. Smith has kind of been out of site, out of mind for quite some time now and Spencer has taken some steps in the right direction during practices.

1. Does Tech make it through the season with the same starting QB?
2. 10 win season?
3. Does Tech win a Big 12 Championship in Football in the next 5 years?
1. God I hope.
2. In 2024? I think it's possible based on the opportunity that the schedule presents. There is a massive opportunity to build momentum here, and the Washington State game will be the gut check for the season as a whole. If you can take care of your non-con business, you have a real chance to play competitive and meaningful games in November.
3. Based on talent, you should, but football isn't all about talent.

Is there any hope that we will eventually have a respectable non-con schedule? Seeing UT schedule UCONN, Purdue schedule Marquette etc etc is just so frustrating when ours consists of TAMU and….DePaul?
Yea, the Big 12 - Big East has done you zero favors you've drawn DePaul (19-20), St. John's (20-21), Providence (21-22), Georgetown (22-23), Butler (23-24) and now DePaul again for 24-25. Tech's luck with the draws in this, the SEC one and the MTE's have made for less strong schedules than there should be, honestly. I wouldn't disparage the A&M game, that's a solid get and it's hard to get power conference teams to play on the road, just the nature of the beast.

Sorry if I missed this, but who will be the...
  1. Kicker
  2. Punter
  3. Punt Returner
  4. Kickoff Returner
Are these set in stone or is the competition ongoing?
1. Gino Garcia returns, likely to be the starter, but don't rule out Reece Burkhart, the kickoff specialist from last year.
2. Jack Burgess, the Weber State transfer. Here's our convo with him back in December.
3. Not sure if McCray is going to make the transition to do this too. I know they've had him work on it through the spring. I think Hudson might work on this when he comes back.
4. Should be McCray.

Which baseball injury has hurt this team the most?
Petty? Losing a starter from last year has really hurt. And even if he stayed on the mid-week, it'd be nice if he could throw instead of your Zach Erdman types, nothing against Zach, but it's reality. Been a tough go of it from that perspective this year, and the last couple, to be honest.

  1. Now that we’re through one spring, what differences have you noticed in McGuire’s coaching style compared to Hamby? How has the OL unit changed as a whole in that time?
  2. Overall, what has been a point of emphasis from all coaches in the spring that stands out as elevated or different from past years?
1. From what I've seen during individual drills and heard to an extent overall, McGuire is a much better teacher in the moment. Multiple times where he would stop what he was doing to get things exactly how he's looking for it from the guys. We also saw him impliment more one on ones with the D-Line, something that we never saw under Hamby. Fitch also said that he was a fan of that, with a bit of a chuckle when saying they didn't do it before.
2. Seems like a bit more urgency. Tech's coaching staff really seemed to be understanding of the frustration from last season and was doing things at a heightened tempo this spring. It was a really different feel, especially in the trenches where I spent the majority of my time during open practices.

This has been hinted at but do you expect the Adidas partnership to have clear and obvious impact in basketball and would it play a bigger impact in high school or transfer players?
Yes. It's probably the sport that will see the biggest jump, and it's probably more about how Under Armor is looked at rather than what Adidas actually is. UA is disdained by most hoops dudes and you can definitely see it with Buff basically counting down the days on his twitter for it. I think it would help for both, honestly. Probably a touch more for HS dudes since the portal is mostly about NIL and everything else is secondary. Cannot hurt.

Chances we land the trio of Carr, Hawkins, Osobor? How far do we go if we do?
Well, as we know, the trio is now 0% with Carr going to UK. I think Tech feels really good about Hawkins after his visit, and if he takes the UK visit that he has scheduled, it will tell us all we need to know. Osobor, we will see. The visit that is scheduled is still scheduled and I think he ultimately takes it next weekend, after that, who knows.

For real tho when are we getting actual info on when Adidas stuff will be available? Casey's podcast teased it but ultimately that was a big nothing burger.
Nothing will be available before July 1, I can promise you that.
